IEEE 1588-2008 PTP Protocol Software
OnTime Networks provides an IEEE1588 protocol software according to IEEE1588 Std 2008. Ordinary clock (master and slave), transparent clock, 1-step and 2-step clock, E2E or P2P delay mechanism, PTP management and OnTime PTP SNMP MIB are all supported by the Protocol Software.
The Protocol Software is written in C, and an API is provided to interface the stack. All operating system dependencies are decoupled from the stack itself and gathered in a single C file. Porting the stack from one operating system to another is about changing this file only.
Timestamps can be generated in hardware or software and provided to the software stack through the defined API. Reading out the timestamp from the 1588 compliant hardware is not a part of the protocol software itself but can be provided as an additional service.
A translation feature between IEEE 1588-2002 and IEEE 1588-2008 is also supported on a per port basis.
Functionality
The IEEE 1588 protocol software is a full implementation of the IEEE 1588-2008 standard with the following features:
Supported Processors and Ethernet Controllers
OnTime Networks’ IEEE 1588 protocol stack is available for different processors, operating systems and Ethernet controllers supporting 1588. For a complete overview please contact us at contact@ontimenet.com. An adaptation of the IEEE 1588 protocol stack to targets not currently supported can be performed by OnTime Networks on request.

As an additional program offering, OnTime Networks can also handle the adaptation, implementation and testing of the IEEE 1588 software on your system.
IEEE 802.1AS Protocol Software
OnTime provides a gPTP protocol Software for Audio/Video bridging (AVB) according to IEEE 802.1AS for Ethernet Switches. IEEE 802.1AS defines a Time Aware Bridge, which may be described as a crossing between the Transparent clock and the Boundary clock defined in IEEE1588-2008. IEEE802.1AS defines a layer 2
IEEE1588-2008 profile plus additional requirements. Due to these requirements the internals of the gPTP stack is very different from the PTP protocol stack and such released as a separate product. Whereas the IEEE1588-2008 opens for a variety of configuration options, 802.1AS allows few configuration options in order to simplify configuration for the end user.
The OnTime stack has been thoroughly tested and approved by the Interoperability Lab at the University of New Hampshire.
